Get that trumpet bell up kid, one day you might be the best in town. You can’t do it with the attitude you have in band. You need to make your dreams come true. Freddie Hubbard made his come true. Did you know he was one of the best trumpet players in the 1960’s? According to Freddie Hubbard official website, Freddie stands as one of the boldest and most inventive artists of the bop, hard-bop and post-bop eras. Hubbard was born on April 7, 1938, In Indianapolis, Indiana. But sadly he passed away at the age of 70 on December 29, 2008.

He will happily be remembered as the most powerful and prolific trumpeter in jazz. In 1961, Hubbard released what many consider to be his masterpiece, Ready For Freddie, which marked his first Blue Note collaboration with Wayne Shorter. He achieved his greatest popular success in the 1970s with a series of crossover albums on Atlantic and CTI Records. Freddie Hubbard official website states that despite his failing health, Hubbard continued to carry the jazz torch by participating in residencies at various colleges around the country to share the wealth of his knowledge with the next best selling artist.

When Hubbard was 20 he moved to New York and quickly established himself as one of the bright young trumpeters on the scene, having critics and fans helped him become better. Freddie Hubbard was a brilliant virtuoso performer with a rich, full tone that remained consistent in slow passages as well as fast ones. I am happy to say he has been my inspiration for being a better trumpet player. Who is your inspiration?
